Lessons in the Art of Relaxation

OMG…I can't believe May is almost over. Everything around me has been speeding up since March. During this time, I realized I needed to change my approach to self-care and relaxation. In the past, self-care meant scheduling a reflexology, massage, or yoga session, while relaxation involved taking a day or weekend off to do nothing. However, as my life is shifting and evolving this year, I've come to realize that I need to redefine self-care and relaxation to avoid exhaustion and burnout.  Instead of pre-planning self-care and relaxation for the beginning of the day, the end of the day, or during the weekend, I’ve started to sprinkle self-care and relaxation throughout my day.  Some ideas I have begun to incorporate into my day as I figure out what works and what doesn’t:

  • Keeping bubbles at my desk and throughout the day blow bubbles to remind myself to breathe and to release stuck energy;
  • Keeping an art journal at my desk, and randomly spending a few minutes throughout the day doodling, and jotting down notes and ideas;
  • Keeping the windows open at night and spending an extra 5 minutes in bed in the AM listening to the birds and nature sing;
  • Taking breaks from my computer and looking out the window and seeing what mother nature is up to; There have been some awesome cloud formations recently;
  • Listening to inspiring YouTube videos and/or podcasts while working on mundane but necessary tasks;

My Summer Intention

OMG—I can't believe it's May!!! I had a few panic moments last week as I started to stress out about...

How am I going to keep up with the yard work and the weeds?
So, with this new moon (May 7th), I decided to set an intention for the summer and let myself off the hook.


My yard isn't going to be perfect this year, but I'm feeding the bees.
I love this intention...it makes me feel calm and relaxed, trusting that what gets done gets done and the rest supports the beneficial insects and birds.  This allows me more time to focus on creating new plant music videos, like Lilac, which has been on my list (next weekend for sure!).
