The Empty Room

5/30/2026

The empty room wasn't empty at all.
It was waiting for me to notice its possibilities.
~Robin Rosenstiel

Sometimes inspiration doesn't arrive with a grand plan. Sometimes it arrives disguised as a simple class.

Last weekend, I took an online collage workshop. Part of the class involved creating our own handmade art book using a bookbinding process (something that has been on my list of things to attempt to create for years).

There was something magical about it.

Not only were we filling pages with creativity, but we were creating the container itself. Before there could be art, there needed to be a place for the art to live.

As I stitched pages together and held the finished book in my hands, something unexpected happened.

The creative energy didn't stop when the class ended.

It inspired me to clean out a closet at the top of stairs on the second floor of the Kent Emporium.  What had become a storage space slowly transformed into an art supply closet—a home for paper, paint, glue, scissors, magazines, and all the beautiful odds and ends that spark imagination.

And then something shifted...

The closet wasn't the destination. It was the beginning.

As I stood in that newly organized space, I started looking at the rest of the second floor differently. Instead of seeing separate rooms, I began seeing possibility.

I've been wanting to remodel the 2nd floor for the past few years but felt uninspired.  Now suddenly I found myself imagining...

A Creative Incubator...A place where people can come and reconnect with imagination, possibility, intuition, and expression.

The funny thing about inspiration is that it rarely shows us the entire path. It simply offers the next step.
  • The handmade book led to the closet.
  • The closet led to a vision.

The vision is still unfolding.

And that's when I realized something.

I wasn't stuck with how to remodel the second floor.  I was waiting for the right time for the inspiration to emerge.

How often do we look at unfinished spaces in our lives and assume nothing is happening?
  • The unwritten book.
  • The business idea.
  • The spare room.
  • The dream that hasn't fully taken shape.
  • The creative project waiting patiently in the wings.

We call these places empty because we can't yet see the final result.

But what if they aren't empty at all?

What if they are gathering energy?

What if they are quietly preparing for what wants to emerge?

An empty room is not a void. It is possibility.

And perhaps the same is true for us. Maybe the spaces that feel unfinished, uncertain, or undefined aren't problems to solve. Maybe they're invitations....
  • Invitations to trust the process.
  • Invitations to follow curiosity.
  • Invitations to create room for something new.

This week, I invite you to consider...
What empty room in your life is waiting to become something more?

You don't need to know exactly what it will become.

You only need to take the next step.

The rest will reveal itself in time.

Wishing you a week filled with curiosity,
Robin

Fresh Beginnings & Rhubarb Medicine

5/25/2026

The rhubarb did not question whether it was ready to bloom. It simply answered the season.
~Robin Rosenstiel

There’s something fascinating happening in my garden right now.

My rhubarb plant has started to flower. Not just a tiny bloom here and there, but tall, wild, intricate flowers reaching upward as if announcing...

Something new is ready to emerge.

And honestly? It stopped me in my tracks. Because lately, I’ve been feeling stuck in the middle with my medicine card project.  I have...
  • Intuitive ideas.
  • Fragments.
  • Symbols.
  • Messages.
  • Feelings.
  • Images that arrive out of nowhere.

But my mind keeps asking for a full roadmap before it allows me to move forward.
It wants certainty.
A game plan.
A perfectly mapped process.
And because I don’t have all the answers yet...

I’ve found myself hovering in that uncomfortable in-between space... wanting to create…but hesitating to begin.

Then the rhubarb flowers appeared. And what struck me most is this...

The plant didn’t wait until everything was figured out before blooming.

It simply responded to the season it was in. There’s a lesson in that. Sometimes growth doesn’t arrive as a perfectly organized strategy. Sometimes it arrives as a quiet inner nudge asking us to trust what’s unfolding before we can fully explain it.

The flowers felt like medicine.

A reminder that perhaps it’s time to shed some outdated habits:
  • needing certainty before taking action
  • over-planning intuitive work
  • believing creativity must arrive in a perfectly linear way
  • waiting to feel “fully ready”

Maybe the next chapter isn’t asking for a rigid blueprint.
Maybe it’s asking for relationship.
Conversation.
Curiosity.
Trust.

The truth is, medicine cards aren’t meant to be forced into existence.

They are meant to be listened to. And maybe that’s where I’ve been getting tangled...

Trying to “manage” something that actually wants to emerge organically.

The rhubarb flowers reminded me that beginnings don’t always look polished. Sometimes they look...
  • Wild.
  • Unexpected.
  • Untamed.
  • Alive.

Maybe that’s what fresh beginnings really are.

Not a perfectly planned leap forward…
but a willingness to loosen our grip on old ways of creating.

To trust the season we’re in. To bloom before we fully understand the outcome. So, this week, I’m asking myself:

What wants to emerge if I stop trying to force the timing?

And maybe that question is meant for you too.
Stay open to the unfolding,
Robin

Reflective Prompts:
  • Where am I asking for certainty before allowing myself to begin?
  • What outdated creative habit am I being asked to shed?
  • What idea keeps gently returning, even when I try to overthink it away?
  • What if this “middle space” is actually part of the unfolding?
  • What would it feel like to trust the season I’m in?

The Courage to Step Off the Ride

Not everything that keeps us moving
is moving us toward ourselves.
~Robin Rosenstiel

Lately, I’ve felt like I stepped onto a merry-go-round of tasks.

Not necessarily bad tasks.
Not dramatic chaos.
Just constant motion.

Emails.
Responsibilities.
Projects.
News.
Noise.

The kind of movement that keeps you busy enough to forget to ask:

“Is my heart still in this?”

And somewhere in the middle of all of it…
a red-winged blackbird appeared at my bird feeder.
If you’ve ever seen one, you know they don’t blend in quietly.
There’s something bold about them.
Grounded.
Alert.
Distinct.

The flash of red on their wings feels almost like a signal flare:

“Wake up.”

Red-winged blackbirds are often associated with reclaiming voice, protecting what matters, and remembering your place amidst the noise.

It felt less like coincidence and more like a reminder.

Not everything that keeps us moving is actually moving us forward.
I think many of us are feeling this right now.

The world feels loud.
Fast.
Demanding.

It’s easy to organize our lives around urgency instead of alignment.

Easy to become so productive that we lose touch with what actually makes us feel alive. So lately, I’ve been asking myself:
  • What feels alive right now?
  • What drains me?
  • What am I doing because it matters?
  • What am I doing because the world trained me to keep spinning?

Maybe the answer isn’t abandoning responsibility.

Maybe it’s simply remembering how to hear ourselves again.
Perhaps that’s the medicine of the red-winged blackbird:
  • A reminder that your voice still exists beneath the noise.
  • A reminder that your inner rhythm matters.
  • A reminder that you are allowed to step off the merry-go-round long enough to reconnect with what is true.

Carrying the medicine of voice and threshold,
Robin ✨

Reflective Prompts:
  • Where in my life have I been moving out of habit instead of alignment?
  • If I stepped off the “merry-go-round” for a moment, what would I notice?
  • If the red-winged blackbird could speak directly to me, what might it say?
  • What would change if I trusted that my inner voice deserves as much attention as the world around me?
