 Recently, I was complaining (something I've been doing a lot lately) about the weeds growing in my ornamental grass bed. I planted the new grass in May, and it's been a battle to keep the weeds out (but my cats love the jungle it has turned into!). This past weekend, I mentioned to my friend… I'm going to pull the weeds in the ornamental grass bed on Sunday. His response… What weeds? I was puzzled and curious about how he couldn't see all of the weeds. So, Sunday after I pulled the weeds, I showed him the area and again asked if he saw a difference. He just mumbled and said it looked nicer. So, I asked him… Where did you purchase your weed-free glasses from? I need a pair! Mother Nature has always been a great mentor to me. So, all of the weeds in my yard that have been irritating me this summer got me thinking about how these weeds are a metaphor for my life this year. Everywhere I turn, I notice things that irritate me. I try to ignore or remove the irritation; however, regardless of what I do, these "weeds" (irritations) always pop up somewhere else and, in reality, are completely beyond my control. So, what has Mother Nature, and the weeds been trying to teach me this summer… No matter how hard I try, my life isn't going to be perfect. There will always be people who will be dissatisfied with my choices. There will always be Monday Morning Quarterbacks questioning my actions. And for those moments when something really irritates me, and I have no control over it… I'm going to put on my weed-free glasses, smile, and just let it go!
