When something goes wrong in your life, just yell "PLOT TWIST" and move on! ~Robin Rosenstiel This morning I awoke with no heat. At first I thought it was the new remote thermostat (purchased in November) for the 2nd floor, but as soon as I went to the bathroom and had no lights, I realized I also had no electricity on the 2nd floor. My second thought was "Maybe it's just the 2nd floor as I've been having electrical work done", so I went downstairs, and NOPE - no heat and electric there either. And with out electric my gas furnaces do not work. And how did it make me feel? Angry. I don't keep my building overly warm to begin with, so when the 2nd floor temperature read 55 degrees and the first floor temperature read 40 degrees... I was pissed! I had a plan today, I had my to-do list of activities (laundry, taxes, cleaning, etc.). And instead I found myself at 7am this morning making phone calls and determining back up plans in case the electric wasn't restored soon. In Northern Illinois, we are in the start of an Artic Blast and no heat means major issues (water pipes bursting). The electric and heat did turn back on by 7:30am . But lets be honest, by then, I was so angry that even my cats magically disappeared. So what did I do... I re-wrote the to-do list! The Only To-Do List I Need:
So today I'm going to start over,. I'm going to relax, enjoy the magic of silence, and follow Mother Natures cue and stay cozy. As its obviously not time to move forward with anything. How do you react after an unplanned event throws your to-do list out the window? Do you muscle through or do you take a step back and pause? Comments are closed.
