Its Monday morning and the alarm goes off.  What do you do?
 
Do you feel like a groundhog that wants to hibernate for 6 more weeks?

Or

Do you jump out of bed excited about the day ahead?
If I had answered that question last week, I would have selected the groundhog option (and hit the snooze button) and slept in for another 6 weeks.  Which to be honest with you...really isn't my style as I'm a morning person.  So, I decided to dig a little deeper and look at my 2022 vision (created in December) and discovered why I wanted to stay in bed.  
 
Groundhog hibernation energy was showing me that my 2022 vision no longer inspired me.
 
So, I decided to reset my 2022 vision. 

Let Go of Something Heavy - Unburden myself from worry and doubt.
Walk with Hope - Be gentle with myself as I step into the unknown.
Allow for Pretend - Invite in imagination via Dance. Dream. Create. Write. Draw. Play.
Fall into Wonder - Be amazed by the magic of serendipity.
Discover Something New - Seek new favorite books, music, hobbies, foods, and places.
Look for Opportunity - Imagine that all the years before have been leading to now.
Chase Kindness - Plant seeds of kindness, as the world needs more kindness.

Interesting Cast of Characters

• The complainer - who points out the problems and expects everyone else (including you) to fix the problems.
• The schmoozer - who quickly manipulates the conversation to determine what you can do for them.
• The name dropper - who drops the name of every "important" person they know as an attempt to impress you.
• The money obsessed - who speaks about their wealth as in attempt to make you feel less than.
• The politician - who is a social/career climber and determines you aren't worthy of their time.
• The eye roller - who scans the room of people and determines "I don't belong here!". 

Needless to say, I'm glad that I wasn't locked into that room!  And I'm sure you can relate - being stuck in a room (work, wedding reception, Christmas party, etc.) for an extended period of time with a cast of characters you would prefer not to associate with.  So, my question for you this week is....


If you were locked in a coffee shop for 8 hours and could not leave, who would you want in the coffee shop with you?

This year I wasn't feeling the urge to pick a work for 2022, so I didn't.  Funny thing, that didn't stop the universe from providing me with a word. How did that happen?  As I returned to working after the holiday break, a word kept popping up...

This is how I want to feel this year!

After a year of feeling confined, constrained, restricted, frustrated, and uninspired, it makes sense.  I'm tired of feeling like every day is Groundhog Day.  I'm ready to move on and expand in 2022. 

Now you try it - how do you WANT to feel in 2022?

• Loved
• Brave
• Fit
• Fearless
• Sophisticated
• Savvy
• Resourceful
• Boldness
• Self-Assured

Not sure how you want to feel?  I get it!  Sometimes I get totally stuck when someone asks me that question.  When this happens, I find it easier to identify what I don't like.  So, if you are struggling to figure out how you want to feel in 2022, make a list of everything you don't want to feel based on your experiences of 2021.

Are you feeling stuck?  Ask this instead...
How do I NOT want to feel in 2022:

• Uninspired
• Lonely
• Cautious
• Exhausted
• Anxiety
• Boring
• Powerless
• Scarcity
• Dull
• Self-Doubting

Now that you identified what you don't want, an easy way to identify what you do want is to take the opposite of the word (s) you don't want.  Example:  Self-doubting -> Self-assured.  And that just might be your work for 2022.

I watched an interesting marketing video last week regarding priorities vs. actions.  This video really got me thinking about...

What stops me from putting my own priorities at the top of the list?
So, I would like you to take a moment and reflect on your own priorities from last week vs. where you spent your time and energy.  There is no shame or judgement here.  Just simply curiosity. 

Are my actions aligned with my priorities?
For example.  If my January priority is to make more money, am I focusing on activities that support this priority or did I focus on other activities.  If my January priority is to focus on self-care, did I actions support this priority or did my actions reflect other priorities?  If my January priority is to focus on personal growth, did my actions support this priority?  It's so easy for many of us to get distracted with actions that don't support our priorities. 

If not, why?

We tend to be the people that want to give, give, give and as a result our priorities become the last priorities on the list.  And as a result, our cup becomes empty.    You may believe you are being more generous by sacrificing your own well-being for your family, your company, your community...but you're not.  You're simply playing the role of savior without saving yourself.  It's a form of denial to believe you can help someone else without first healing yourself.

Let's face it - we have all been raised in a culture where we are made to feel guilty for saying NO.  We are told - It is an important project/task or put family needs before your own needs.  As a result, you tell yourself; it won't take too long and the next thing you know weeks or months have passed and your priorities are in the back seat.  It's even worse for those of us with big missions.  There is no extra credit for running yourself into the ground.  In some way or another, your body will tell you it needs a rest.  Often this will come at inopportune times. 

So, what can I do?
 
The most selfless thing I can do is - FILL UP MY OWN CUP FIRST

Look outside. 
What is Mother Nature doing? 
Resting.
Follow her lead and slow it down.   
There is plenty time for action in the months to come.
January Energy:  Indulge in self-care.  Sleep as much as you possibly can.  You are building your energetic foundation for the rest of the year.  So, sleep and rest without guilt.  Stop the negative “Lazy Susan” or “unproductive” self-talk.  Your rest is your most important work this season.

February Energy:  We emerge stronger and with clarity because we rested in January.
