“Choices after waking up: Self-care first or self-care last. Your choice.” ~ Robin Rosenstiel Because I live in a farming community, I can always tell when Spring is in the air. There are tractors, farm equipment, and trucks running non-stop in order to prep the soil, fertilize the soil, and plant seeds. As a highly sensitive intuitive empath, it is easy to find myself getting caught up in this farming “go-go-go” energy of all work and no time for rest or play. The “go-go-go” energy sneaks up on me (because I'm picking up everyone's frantic energy) and then the next thing I know, I’m stretched out on the sofa feeling exhausted and burned out. Over the course of the past several weeks, I spoke to several alternative self-care healers, and they all had the exact same response… I’m so busy right now! I don’t remember the last time I took a day off from work! It's always good to learn that I'm not the only one feeling how the energy shifts of nature impact people. As Mother Nature shifts out of hibernation mode, people tend to shift into a frantic “go-go-go” mode. I like to call this... SPRING MADNESS Just this past week, I caught myself slipping back into this crazy energy pattern of “I can’t remember the last time I took a day off” mode. So this past Sunday I decided to take an R&R afternoon off to hang out at a winery and just slow down (the yard work and home improvement projects can wait until another day regardless of what my mind tells me). As a result, I woke up Monday morning feeling refreshed, relaxed, and happy. By Tuesday I was starting to feel off balance again. Thank goodness I had already prescheduled a Reflexology appointment. It was during that appointment when I slowed down, connected to my body, and could finally feel how much of this “go-go-go’ energy I was physically absorbing and how it was impacting my stress level. Afterwards I was like… Wow – really I needed that 60 minutes to disconnect from the "go-go-go" energy and simply relax into bliss. I can’t stress enough the need for a regular self-care routine to improve your overall health. And for those people that are highly sensitive intuitive empaths, self-care is a necessity and not a luxury! Ways to add self-care into your routine? Try yoga, medication, walking in nature, journaling, painting, massage, reflexology, etc. Any activity that gets you out of your head and into your body.
